This Holiday Home Amidst Mango Orchards
Jeevan Jyot
Built for a family of four, who wanted a cosy two-bedroom place for their weekend getaways, this holiday home is designed by architects Palak and Saurabh Singla of Panchkula-based firm, Design i.O. “This was designed, laid out, and built to camouflage into the surrounding silence and solitude,” recall the architects. The space starts with a stone pathway that leads to the open-to-nature holiday home surrounded by an orchard of mango, chikoo and guava trees. The massive site has 49 trees and highlights its neighbouring natural elements, taking inspiration from them. The grey and white structure of the house blends in with its surroundings.

Designed for a couple for their retirement this 2,700-square-foot apartment near Chandigarh is decorated with local arts and crafts. Designer Mehak Thakur of MT Designs did the interiors of this home located in the foothills of the Shivalik mountains. Being passionate about supporting Indian artisans, the couple wanted a space that exhibited local workmanship. The designers have accordingly used furniture made by local craftsmen. For example, the living area features two wood and cane chairs with a charcoal finish, and the primary bedroom houses chairs with a cotton woven fabric designed and produced by MT Designs in collaboration with a local workshop in Chandigarh.
