Ziya – The Oberoi, Gurgaon

A contemporary rendition of the classic is how you can describe Ziya, the newest restaurant by chef Vineet Bhatia at The Oberoi, Gurugram, designed by Architecture Discipline. The entrance, adorned with visually striking fire fused glass against a vintage timber pattern, sets the tone for the chic yet classic space even as reflective steel and glass elements echo the hotel’s distinctive architecture. A monumental communal table sweeps across the centre with flower-pod-like light fixtures rising from its surface and the ceiling with its fluid patterns takes the theme of curvilinear structures ahead. While one side of the restaurant faces the signature deep blue pool, the other boasts of blue and gold accented nooks bringing privacy and visual delight. Hand-painted artwork, a rich tapestry, and a champagne-accented bar add charm and opulence in equal measure.

Avesh Gaur

Designed by Sanchit Arora of Renesa, LAIR brings a new dimension to the speakeasy concept in the capital. A glass brick entry creates a mirage-like feel along with the reflective mirror staircase and pendant lights. The first level is divided into two bars and the tables here can be folded to create space as the night progresses. Curved seating nooks with textured concrete and wood add drama. A large staircase with mirror-finished stainless steel acts as the focal point and leads to the second level overlooking the massive double-height space. The third and final ‘lair’ serves as the clandestine entry, opposite the kitchen and storage, a visitor finds himself in front of a private dining room concealed within the wall, put forward as an undisclosed hideaway. While the “cocktail cave” hidden behind a curtain plays on an industrial meets underground theme, the infusion bar enjoys a more mellow vibe with a curved seating area shelled out of the walls.

Begam

Adding to the beautiful restaurants in Delhi is Begam which pays homage to the opulence of Rajasthan through its design and architecture. Featuring intricate jharokhas, ornate arches, crystal chandeliers, and elegant mirror work, the 5,000-square-foot space spreads leisurely across two floors and offers both indoor and alfresco seating. The influences from Mughal and Rajputana schools of art are vividly brought to life through the intricate craftsmanship in every corner. Hand-painted emerald green walls, detailed marble inlaid tables in black and white, plush chairs upholstered in Mughal block prints, chequered marble flooring, and shamiana-style ceiling, all hark back to the royal quarters of Delhi and Rajasthan. The language carries on in the uniform of the staff, all dressed in monogrammed attire, and in cutlery and serve ware. True to its inspiration, the food on offer is a blend of fine Mediterranean and Turkish cuisines with a dash of Asian and continental.
