9 new restaurants in Mumbai you can check out over the long weekend

After setting roots in Bandra’s Pali Village, the team behind Scarlett House is branching out to a Juhu villa with echoes of cinematic nostalgia. Their signature red palette has created an indulgent recall in a very short time. But for this second outpost, Malaika Arora, joined by son Arhaan Khan, Malaya Nagpal and restaurateur Dhaval Udeshi, had a slightly different brief for Splendour Living: legacy architecture meets Juhu’s seaside charm. The result is a sensuous sanctuary with floors of timeworn Acacia planks, and walls that alternate between exposed red brick and faded vintage wallpaper. The layout flows from an outdoor glasshouse to a warm indoor area with tropical aesthetics and an intimate eight-seater cocktail bar. Here, guests can enjoy the regular menu echoing Malaika’s personal kitchen philosophy, washed down with flavoured waters, coolers, and interactive cocktails from the hydration bar.

Goa hottest Thai restaurant, Fireback, has a new outpost in Mumbai. Spread over 1,550 square feet at Nilaya Anthology, it creates the theatrics and fire-grilled madness of traditional Thai kitchens with Chef David Thompson guiding the philosophy as Culinary Director. To set the stage, EVH Hospitality enlisted London’s Russell Sage Studio with the task of creating an Asian-inspired landscape under the direction of EHV’s Director Design, Rashmi Khattar. At first glance, the terrazzo flooring and Fireback’s signature textured black tiles take you back to Goa. But subtle cues nod to a certain oriental charm: a ribbon-like ceiling light installation creates a sense of flow that reflects spatial rhythm, while arches and screens evoke the lightweight aesthetic of Thai interiors. The show kitchen adds mood to this method with live views of flame cooking.

Past Fireback, behind doors through Comorin, EVH Hospitality’s latest venture is a café crafted for European indulgences. Drift serves an all-day menu with breakfast staples, sandwiches, burgers and pâtisserie, along with entrées, pastas, and à la carte desserts over lunch and dinner. The easy menu meets breezy interiors designed by London’s Russell Sage Studio under Rashmi Khattar’s eye, with Fireback’s wave-like ceiling installation continuing into this cane and wood landscape. But here, a custom moveable back bar adds visual depth to the experience, while a warmly lit alcove balances the angular layout with the curvilinear accents.

Whether you’ve heard stories of the old Bombay, or been lucky enough to live them out, this place will bring the bygone drama to life. Miss Margot is a reimagination of the city’s intimate lounges from the 90s where social palaver filled hearts before the starters arrived at the table. Think: burnished gold accents against deep green walls, soft velvet to sink into, and dim lamps hovering over black mirrored tables that invite you in for a revelation over cocktails. Designed by The Orange Lane, the space reels you in with a striking brass wall installation at the entrance. At the bar, a distressed stone sculptural torso recalls the elegance of classical antiquity, while a gilded library forms a quiet nook for deep conversations. Created by Kishore DF of The Tanjore Tiffin Room, Dimi Lezinska and chef partner Parth Purandare, this new restaurant in Mumbai offers modern European continental small plates with a touch of Japanese technique.

With Bomdia, Oorjaa and Gaurav Majrekar have brought the best of two worlds to Matunga. The two-storey space features distinct experiences — a relaxed café on the ground floor and a fine dining restaurant on the upper level. To bring out this duality, Ruchika Chhabria of Studio RCI went with a fresh, breezy atmosphere for the café, and built a warm yet vibrant charm for the latter. Upon entry, the lower level invites casual chatter with soft pinks, powder blues, and beige tones paired with ash veneer. But for groups headed for an evening of dining, walls doused in rich terracotta hues promise an experience of indulgence. The shift from cane and clay to fluted wood and veneer add to the distinction, so that every corner of every floor feels like a novel experience on every visit. With a live coffee bar, quick bites and Asian fare, this is the newest wholesome hangout in town.
