caramel tones and undulating lines form melting interior of pluto burger bar
Pluto Burger Bar designed by Znamy Się in Wrocław
Pluto, a growing monoconcept dedicated to smash burgers, has opened its first permanent location, designed by Znamy Się, following a series of pop-ups and festival appearances, including Wrocław’s Gastromiasto. The brand draws inspiration from American smash bars, focusing on pared-back menus and refined flavors, which the interior design reflects through a similarly restrained yet layered spatial approach.
The interior takes its cues from the smash technique, where a ball of ground beef is pressed flat against a hot griddle to maximize surface contact. This process produces the Maillard reaction, responsible for the burger’s caramelization, aroma, and depth of flavor. The spatial design translates this culinary principle into architecture through warm lighting, caramel-colored tones, and fluid, undulating lines that suggest transformation and contact. Metal accents throughout the space reference the kitchen tools central to the process.

Design translates cooking into spatial experience
At the core of the restaurant is an open grill framed by a raw metal structure reminiscent of a street food stand. A long bar paired with leather-topped stools creates a social space where guests can view the cooking process. The metallic bar front recalls industrial kitchen surfaces, while the triple-layered countertop references the composition of a burger. The flooring, finished in caramel tones with beige and baked-clay accents, evokes the crust of a toasted patty. Ambient lighting produces a warm glow reminiscent of steam, rising toward the ceiling where the restaurant’s logo is suspended within a circular frame. Irregular glass blocks diffuse light to create a hazy atmosphere, while a continuous blue line, the brand’s signature color, pluto blue, threads through the interior, visually connecting the elements.
The material palette combines raw metal, textured glass, and warm-toned finishes to establish a space that is minimal in form but expressive in detail. Each element contributes to a cohesive narrative linking the act of cooking with the dining environment. Designed by studio Znamy Się, the Pluto interior celebrates the smash burger not only as a culinary technique but as a spatial experience. The project integrates texture, color, and light into a unified design language that connects the kitchen, dining area, and brand identity.
